"Almost Fly" is a coming-of-age series set in 1990, following the lives of three teenagers – Walter "W" Schuster (Samuel Benito), Ben Weber (Andrew Porfitz), and Nik Grossmann (Simon Fabian) – living in a small town in West Germany. Their mundane lives take a sudden turn when they are introduced to hip-hop culture through a nearby US Army base. Captivated by this new music, they decide to form their own hip-hop group called "Atomic Trinity" and start rapping in German, as their English skills are limited.

The series explores not only the musical journey of the three friends but also the social and cultural challenges of early 1990s Germany. It touches on themes such as friendship, self-discovery, and the transformative power of music in shaping young identities. The main cast is complemented by Paula Hartmann as Denise Griebnitz, Laurids Schürmann as Alex von Eckstein, and Samy Abdel Fattah as Cengiz Erbil.

"Almost Fly" was created, written, and directed by Florian Gaag. The show received praise for its authentic portrayal of hip-hop culture and was awarded the DAfFNE Prize by the German Television Academy in 2022 for outstanding sound design.
